Start with the room, not the brochure
The biggest cost drivers are the size of the room, whether walls or services move, and how much preparation the space needs. A same-layout replacement is far cheaper than an open-plan reconfiguration.
Where the money goes
Cabinetry and worktops usually take the largest share, followed by labour, appliances, flooring and lighting. Quartz and solid surfaces cost more than laminate but handle heat and daily wear better.
Where to save sensibly
Keeping the sink and appliance positions, choosing a simpler door style and reusing sound flooring can free budget for the things you touch every day — drawer runners, taps and worktops.
Getting a realistic figure
Ask for an itemised written estimate after a site visit. A price given without seeing the room rarely survives first contact with old pipework and uneven walls.
